Choosing the Right Hearing Aid
There are many styles and options of hearing aids to choose from, and without the right professional it can seem overwhelming to know what kind of hearing aid you should choose. At Lawson’s Hearing Center, we are knowledgeable about every make and model of hearing aid available. We will help you find a hearing aid that will allow you to connect with the ones you love and to hear all the sounds that are important to you.
When recommending a hearing aid, there are FIVE factors we consider:
Some hearing aids are better suited for more severe cases of hearing loss than others. When recommending a hearing aid, it’s important we consider the severity of your hearing loss and what your hearing needs are.
The second factor we consider is your lifestyle. If you live an active and busy lifestyle where you are around people often, in and out of complicated listening environments, then we often recommend a more advanced level of hearing aid technology to meet those lifestyle demands.
Many hearing aids can be custom fit to your unique ear shape, but some models cannot be customized. We will go over what is most comfortable for you depending on the size of your ear.
If you have a difficult time seeing and pressing small buttons, then certain models of hearing aids may not be a good fit for you.
Our desire is to help people the best way possible, and there are many technology levels at a variety of cost points that we may recommend. We will never recommend anything outside of your budget, or a hearing aid that won’t help you. You won’t be pressured to make a decision you don’t want to, because we believe the choice is yours.
OTC Hearing Aids
The FDA recently established a new service delivery model and category of hearing aids. These are now known as over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids. OTC hearing aids are amplification devices that can be purchased without a prescription, over-the-counter. These devices are self-fit and designed for adults 18 and older who have a mild to moderate hearing loss. OTC hearing aids are not custom fit or programmed to your unique hearing loss, they are a one-size fits all option.
The hearing aids we carry at Lawson’s Hearing Center are prescription and are medical devices regulated by the FDA. These hearing aids are professionally fine-tuned to fit your unique hearing needs based off the results of your audiogram. The hearing aids we carry are suitable for all degrees of hearing loss, all activity levels, and people of all ages. To determine which hearing aid is best for you, the first step is a hearing test. Your Hearing Matters
Sounds like laughing, a cheering crowd, or even a simple conversation with a loved one helps shape our lives, adding richness to all our experiences. They keep us connected to each other, and aware of what’s going on around us. When your brain lacks access to the real sounds of life due to hearing loss, it’s forced to work harder to fill in the gaps, which can lead to missing out.
Now you can get back the real sounds of life – precise and balanced – with Oticon RealTM. Oticon RealTM gives you access to the full sound scene, so you can stay aware, engaged, and at your best whether you’re at work, dining with friends, or enjoying outdoor activities. By focusing on supporting the brain’s natural ability to process sounds around us, Oticon RealTM provides a richer sound experience*.
Oticon RealTM delivers:
- Technology that supports how the brain naturally processes sounds
- Better access to the full sound scene
- Increased awareness, engagement, and focus in the real world
